Thomas HINE & C °, Jarnac, France. The origins of the foundation date back to 1763, when the company started as a small family business from Jarnac. In 1791, Thomas Hine from England, was sent to France to learn the art of cognac and took the position of personal assistant in the family business. He soon married the owner's daughter and eventually became his successor. In 1817, the company was named Thomas HINE & Co.
